A
Message from
Film Director
Khashyar
Darvich:
|
Peace
and
Greetings from
Los Angeles,
I hope
that you are
well, and that
you are
enjoying the
end of Summer
and the
beginning of
Autumn.
This
is
Khashyar
Darvich, the
Producer-Director
of Dalai
Lama Awakening
and Compassion
in
Action,
the two new
films that
comprise the
'Dalai Lama
Double
Feature' Film
Tour, which is
beginning a
100-city film
and Director
Q&A tour
of the U.S.
and Canada
beginning in
October.
We are doing
our best to
accommodate as
many of the
requests as
possible for
screenings
across North
America, as
well as
requests for
me to be
present for a
Q&A with
audiences.
After my
interview with
H.H. the 14th
Dalai Lama for
one of our
documentary
films about
peace, the
Dalai Lama
expressed
something that
touched me
profoundly and
deeply:
“Yes
I
like your
questions,”
the Dalai Lama
shared with my
crew and I.
“Certainly,
your effort
can make some
contribution—there’s
no
doubt."
That moment
and my
interviews
with the Dalai
Lama were
life-transforming
moments for
me, because I
experienced
clarity and a
profound
affirmation
that the only
way that I
could feel
fulfilled was
to embrace and
put into
action making
films with the
intention of
serving the
Greatest Good
and to inspire
and uplift
audiences.
Everyone has a
unique
purpose, and
everyone has
their own way
of helping
others and
leaving the
world a little
bit better
than when they
first arrived
on the planet.
I knew that I
was being
called to
create
transformational
and
life-affirming
films.
Actor Harrison
Ford, who
narrates our
newest Dalai
Lama
Awakening
film, used his
celebrity in
the spirit of
service to
help the film
(and the Dalai
Lama's wisdom)
to reach an
even wider
audience:
"I
narrated Dalai
Lama
Awakening,”
says actor
Harrison Ford,
“because I
believe His
Holiness is
making a
positive
influence in
our
world.
For me, the
film
represented an
opportunity to
continue
assisting the
optimistic
efforts of an
extraordinary
individual.”
After having
recently
finished a
36-city film
and Q&A
tour of
England,
Scotland and
Ireland, I am
happy to
announce the
current film
schedule for
our
U.S.-Canada
tour (with new
venues, cities
and dates to
be added every
week):

the film's

Our
last
film, Dalai
Lama
Renaissance,
screened over
1,000 times
around the
world,
including in
over 100
cities in the
U.S. and
Canada, and I
personally
attended over
400 Q&As
around the
world.
We also expect
that our
current film
tour will
screen in over
100 cities
throughout the
U.S. and
Canada.
At
every
screening, it
is
heartwarming
and I feel
grateful to
receive
comments from
audience
members about
how they have
been moved and
impacted by
the
experience.
This validates
for me that
our films are
fulfilling
their
intention:
"Many thanks
to Khashyar,
Parwinder and
the team at
Jamyang
Buddhist
centre,
London, for
sharing
Khashyar's
film with all
of us last
night. This
wasn't just a
movie for me,
it was an
experience. A
true piece of
art which
skilfully
weaved image,
sound, the
written word
and captured
the
spontaneous
narrative in a
way that
communicated
the inner
journey from
the head to
the heart; the
possibility of
outer
transformation
based upon
inner
self-transformation
and all the
egoic
struggles and
heart felt
joys that are
experienced
and felt on
that journey.
This movie
clearly
demonstrates
through its
characters and
HH Dalai Lama
that such a
journey is not
only being
called for in
this day and
age but that
it is
absolutely
possible and
indeed the
birth right of
all of
humanity. A
spiritually
enriching and
inspiring
experience,
thank you May
it go on to
touch
countless more
individuals
and be the
catalyst and
support for
change in
their lives
and in the
world and
continue to
Awaken Hearts
by Opening
Minds."
- Cesare
Saguato, Kent,
England

LOS ANGELES -
Can a film
inspire an
"awakening"
within its
filmmaker, as
well as with
audiences around
the world?
Dalai Lama
Awakening, which
features the
Dalai Lama and
is narrated by
actor Harrison
Ford, is
Director
Khashyar
Darvich's newest
documentary
film, which
audiences are
already calling
"a shift in
consciousness,"
"transformational"
and
"preverbal."
In a "5 Star"
Review,
Examiner.com
calls Dalai Lama
Awakening "a

“Darvich has put

that… hits you

Also screening
during the
U.S.-Canada
‘Dalai Lama

Film Tour from
award-winning
director
Khashyar Darvich
is his new film
Compassion in
Action Film.
Open your heart,

"The intention
of this and all

Director
Darvich, "is to

The Los
Angeles-based
Director's
previous
2008-2012 film
tour of his
award-winning
Dalai Lama
Renaissance was
a huge success,
screening over
1,000 times
around the world
and
enthusiastically
received by
sell-out
audiences.
In March and
April of this
year, Darvich
and his two new
Dalai Lama Films
toured to
enthusiastic
audiences in 36
cities in the UK
and Ireland.
During
screenings in
England where
both ‘Dalai Lama
Awakening’ and
‘Compassion in
Action’ screened
for audiences,
audience members
commented that
watching the two
films provided a
complete
illuminating
experience that
lasted well
after the films
finished.
Melanie from
Findhorn,
Scotland wrote:
"Tonight I went

was brilliant…
Much love to you
Khashyar &
thank you for
everything. You
are a very
unique man, who
is inspiring. It
was an

I will never

'Dalai Lama
Awakening,'
which is a 15
year realization
of a cinematic
dream, presents
the profound and
life-changing
journey of
innovative
Western thinkers
who travel to
India to meet
with the Dalai
Lama to solve
many of the
world's
problems. The
result is an
inner
transformation
of the
participants, as
well as what
audiences report
is a personal
transformational
experience for
those who watch
the film.
The new film was
born from over
500 hours of
video footage
that was shot by
10
cinematographers
over a 15 year
period, and is a
dramatically new
"Poetic
ReVision" and
Director's Cut
of his
award-winning
Dalai Lama
Renaissance
which won 12
awards and
screened over
1,000 times
around the
world.
As successful
and inspiring as
the original
Dalai Lama
Renaissance was,
Darvich felt
that there was a
deeper and more
meaningful story
to tell:
something that
more poetically
and purely spoke
to both the
filmmaker and
audiences.
Darvich felt
that audiences
could go deeper
into the
characters and
discover
something about
themselves.
After personally
appearing in
over 400 film
screenings and
Q&As with
Dalai Lama
Renaissance and
listening to the
inner journeys
of audience
members, Darvich
felt that it was
time to go back
to the editing
room in a deep
and
contemplative
way, and create
Dalai Lama
Awakening while
incorporating
the insights and
reflections that
he received
during the
thousands of
conversations
with audience
members.
In 2011 and
2013, Darvich
also travelled
back to India
and filmed
additional
scenes and
cinematic shots
to include in
Awakening.
"Dalai Lama
Awakening is the
film that my
heart and soul
wanted to make.
It is a film
without
compromise,"
says Director
Khashyar
Darvich. "It is
something pure,
fulfilling and
complete-- a
heart-felt
expression from
the filmmaker's
poetic soul.
This is the film
that inspired me
and moved me at
the most
profound level,
so I know that
it will deeply
impact audiences
as well."
Dalai Lama
Awakening also
features
innovative
thinkers such as
Dr. Michael
Beckwith (from
The Secret),
Quantum
Physicists Fred
Alan Wolf and
Amit Goswami
(from What the
Bleep Do We
Know),
Revolutionary
Social Scientist
Jean Houston and
others.
Screenings and
Q&As of
Dalai Lama
Awakening in the
U.S. plus the
recent
UK/Ireland tour
have been
successful
beyond what
Director Darvich
imagined. Most
screenings have
been sold-out
with audience
members
commenting that
the film has
profoundly moved
them.
Audiences who
have seen 'Dalai
Lama Awakening'
(which is
narrated by
actor Harrison
Ford) have
called the film
"Brilliant,"
"Illuminating"
and "one of the
best possible
manifestations
of spiritualism
through Art."
Another
commented "I
felt my whole
being shift into
compassion" and
another that the
film was "a
journey of
multi-dimensional
beauty." On the
film's Facebook
page, someone
who had watched
the film wrote:
"Truly a film of
awakening. You
will be moved."
Dalai Lama
Awakening will
have its
official World
Premiere in 2014
in several
countries around
the world
simultaneously.
The film and
Director Darvich
have already
attended many
sold-out events
during extensive
multi-city tours
of the film
through both the
United States
and the
UK-Ireland, and
look forward to
sharing the film
with Australia
in 2015.
"Since the goal
and intention of
our films is to
serve the
Greatest Good
and offer a
transformational
and inspiring
experience to
audiences," says
Director
Darvich, "I feel
that it is
important that I
travel with this
film so that the
audience and I
can speak and
share the inner
journey of
personal
transformation
illustrated in
the story, and
so our moment
together becomes
a more magnified
powerful and
heart-felt
experience."
"After each
screening,"
Darvich says,
"it felt deeply
fulfilling that
audience members
would come up to
me and tell me
that they felt
moved and even
changed by
having watched
the film."
Other upcoming
documentary
films from
Darvich and
Wakan Films
(www.wakan.com)
include "The
Silence of
Happiness"
(about deaf
children in Sri
Lanka who
overcome
unhappiness and
limitations
through dance),
a documentary
film "Road to
Happiness"
(about an
American woman
who walked
25,000 miles
across America
for peace
beginning in
1953),
"Forgiving
Buddha" (about
prison inmates
who transform
themselves
through
meditation and
deep honesty,
and other
transformational
films).

New
Transformation
Documentary
Films
to be Released
in 2014 and 2015
|
Wakan Films will
be releasing
seven new
documentary
films, with
inspiring and
transformational
stories and
characters, in
2014 and 2015
Compassion in
Action and Dalai
Lama Awakening
have already been
released this
year, and Matrix
of
Compassion and
Road to
Happiness
are being edited
now and will be
released in
2015
When some
filmmakers say
that they have
"several films
in various
stages of
development,"
they might mean
that they have 7
ideas for films
that they want
to make and are
pitching to
funders.
But in our case,
we actually do
have seven films
that are either
being filmed or
being
edited. :)
It has taken a
lot of creative
perspiration and
reflection, long
hours in the
Wakan Films
office, and the
contributions of
many inspired
and dedicated
Wakan Films Team
Members, but the
inspiring
documentary
films below will
be shared with
the world in
2014 and 2015:
1) Silence
of Happiness
Filming has
begun on this
new inspiring
documentary film
by Wakan Films,
set in the
beautiful
country of Sri
Lanka, centered
around the lives
of deaf children
who are rescued
from their lives
of isolation and
despair in rural
Sri Lanka where
education for
the hearing
impaired is
poor.
These children
are brought to a
village school
for the deaf
where they are
taught sign
language so they
can begin to
communicate
their thoughts
and feelings
with the world,
an inner world
that has been
hidden and
silent for
years. Even
though they
cannot hear the
music, they are
taught beautiful
intricate
traditional Sri
Lankan dance
which helps them
express
themselves in
ways that they
previously could
not have
imagined, which
further heals
their traumatic
experiences of
surviving the
devastating
Tsumani, the Sri
Lankan Civil
War,
homelessness and
neglect and
abuse.
We have already
completed two
filming trips to
Sri Lanka, and a
third filming
trip to Sri
Lanka is being
planned for the
second half of
2014.
These children
and their
stories will
change your life
(as they have
ours).

2) Dalai
Lama Awakening
Director
Khashyar Darvich
just returned
from a
successful
36-city tour of
the UK-Ireland
with Dalai
Lama Awakening,
and we are
planning film
and Director
Q&A Tours of
the U.S., Canada
and Australia
during the
second half of
2014.
Dalai Lama
Awakening,
which was a 15
year realization
of a cinematic
dream, presents
the profound and
life-changing
journey of
innovative
Western thinkers
who travel to
India to meet
with the Dalai
Lama to solve
many of the
world's
problems. The
result was an
inner
transformation
of the
participants, as
well as what
audiences report
is a personal
transformational
experience for
those who watch
the film. The
new film was
born from over
500 hours of
video footage
that was shot by
10
cinematographers
over a 15 year
period, and is a
dramatically new
"Poetic
ReVision" and
Director's Cut
of his
award-winning Dalai
Lama
Renaissance
which won 12
awards and
screened over
1,000 times
around the
world.
In a "5 Star"
Review,
Examiner.com
calls Dalai Lama
Awakening "a
beautiful and
thought-provoking
film...
[Director]
Darvich's
compassion
and
humanity is
apparent... Note
[the premiere]
date because you
will want to
mark it on your
calendar."
"Visually
compelling,
inspiring and
thought-provoking,”
writes
Tom
Richards of
'Surviving
Ireland.'
“Darvich has put
together a
compelling,
slow-burning
documentary."
Dalai Lama
Awakening
is a uniquely
different
cinematic
experience that
will take you
more deeply into
the heart of the
transformational
journey with the
Dalai Lama. This
differs from the
first theatrical
release in that
there are 40
additional
minutes of
scenes and
story, a
completely new
edit by the
Director which
brings a
different
cinematic
experience, and
a 100% newly
composed music
soundtrack.

someone you know
might be

we are planning

4) Forgiving
Buddha
Can men who have
killed become
Buddha?
Forgiving
Buddha is
"an illuminating
journey into the
fire of the self
to free the
mind." It is the
story of 5 men,
most of whom
have been
convicted of
murder, and how
they try to
redeem and
transform
themselves after
25 years in
prison through
adopting a
spiritual
practice of
meditation and
yoga, as well as
self honesty and
deep reflection
of their crimes.
Wakan Films was
granted near
full access to
film inside an
Oregon prison
for a period of
two years, and
also plan on
interviewing the
victims and
victims families
of these crimes.
The film will
explore the
capacity for
inner change,
forgiveness and
compassion.
We have filmed
over 100 hours
of footage, and
more filming is
being scheduled
to illustrate
the characters'
powerful
stories.

Angeles during
the Second World
War, and her
triumphant
overcoming of
unimaginable
abuse through
kindness, love
and forgiveness.

Happiness
A inspiring and
life-affirming
documentary film
about an
American woman
named "Peace

unique,
sometimes quirky

people who were
inspired by
here.

miles across
America for

thousands of
audience members
during every
step of her
journey. Her
message was
"This is the way
of peace:
Overcome evil
with good,
falsehood with
truth, and
hatred with
love."
The film will
feature historic
and powerful
interviews with
Peace Pilgrim,
poet Maya
Angelou, the
